The State Board of Education elected officers at its March 17 meeting, the Department of Education has announced. Tom James of Essex was re-elected board chair, and Ruth Stokes of Williston was re-elected vice-chair. James was appointed to the Board by Governor Douglas in February 2005 after filling an unexpired term.

Nurse practitioner Maria Cabri of Norwich has joined Gifford Medical Center’s Rochester and Sharon health centers, providing primary care to adults and adolescents. A Yale graduate, Cabri previously worked as a certified nurse midwife for more than two decades. In 2005, she returned to school to become a nurse practitioner.
The Vermont Chamber of Commerce has announced that Jeff Morton has been hired as the Director of Communications. Morton comes from WCAX-TV, where he was the Assignment Editor for three years. He graduated from St. Michael’s College in Colchester with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communications. While in College, he was the Executive Editor of the College’s online magazine.
Governor Jim Douglas has announced the appointment of Lisa A. Warren of Waterford to be State’s Attorney for Caledonia County. Warren was most recently Deputy State’s Attorney for the county. She has also been active on the Northeast Kingdom Domestic Violence Task force as well as the Vulnerable Adults Task Force.
Green Up Vermont announced winners in its annual writing and student poster design contest for Green Up Day 2009. Olivia Bellingham, Grade 5 from Flood Brook Union School was the overall winner. The artwork features a smiling, young girl in an orange dress who is putting litter in its place, in a trash can.
