The North Country Animal League’s Board of Trustees announced that Deb Fennell was hired as Executive Director. Fennell has over 20 years leadership experience in the non-profit and for-profit sectors as director of the Smugglers’ Notch Ski Club, camp director of YWCA of Vermont’s Camp Hochelaga and camp director of Windridge Camp at Teela-Wooket.

Fourteen of the 37 senior attorneys at Downs Rachlin Martin are recognized in the recently published Chambers USA: America’s Leading Business Lawyers 2009, and the firm is ranked in the top tier in all five practice areas the organization ranks in Vermont. Selections were based on extensive research, including peer and client evaluations, conducted each year by Chambers.

On May 30, 2009 the Green Mountain Club (GMC) elected new officers and awarded four Honorary Life Memberships and a President’s Award. The awards were presented at the Green Mountain Club’s 99th annual meeting at its new Visitor Center on Route 100 between Waterbury and Stowe.

Administrators of the Middlebury College Fellowships in Environmental Journalism recently announced ten fellowship recipients for 2009. The program, in its third year, is designed to support intensive, year-long reporting about environmental issues by journalists at the start of their careers.

An incredible onslaught of people, activity, rickshaws, food vendors, goats, cows, over-loaded buses—all mingling on the streets of the teeming city of Kolkata.

Such was the impression of the eight students and two staff members from Saint Michael's College, who spent three weeks, May 18 to June 8, doing volunteer work in Kolkata (AKA Calcutta), India.

Samantha Talbot recently joined the Vermont Symphony Orchestra staff as office manager. She served most recently as marketing coordinator for Spruce Peak at Stowe. Prior to that position, she was an intern in the brand management and market research departments of KSV in Burlington and worked as a volunteer and site coordinator for the Vermont Mozart Festival summer series. Talbot holds B.A.

Cindy Beaudoin-Valyou of Milton, a 20+ year veteran of the Saint Michael's College Early Learning Center, was named the 2009 Early Childhood Professional of the Year by the Building Bright Futures Council of Chittenden County at ceremonies held June 11 at Trinity Church in Shelburne.
