ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center hires new events manager

ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center, at the Leahy Center for Lake Champlain, is pleased to announce the addition of Rachel Connor as the new Events Manager. Rachel Connor is a native Vermonter who grew up in Vergennes. She attended Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island where she received a B.S. in Recreation and Leisure management and a MBA in Hospitality Management with a concentration in Event Management.

Ben MacKinney, E.I., Joins DuBois & King

DuBois & King, Inc, consulting engineers announce that Ben MacKinney, EI has joined the firm as a Structural Engineer in the firm’s Structures Department. A 2009 graduate of the University of Vermont’s School of Engineering, Mr. MacKinney is a Civil Engineer and Licensed Engineer Intern with 2 years of structural design experience. Mr. MacKinney’s experience encompasses structural design of reinforced concrete, steel, masonry, and timber structures. Mr. MacKinney lives in Colchester, and works in the firm’s Williston, Vermont office.

Mr. McDonald lives in South Burlington with his family and works in the firm’s Williston, Vermont office.

St Michael’s political science Professor Patricia Siplon awarded Fulbright Scholarship to teach in Amman, Jordan

Saint Michael's College political science Professor Patricia Siplon has been awarded a Fulbright award to Jordan from the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, a 12-member Presidentially appointed board, funded by the U.S. Congress. Dr. Siplon will teach for a full year in the University of Jordan’s American Studies Program. Announcement of her selection was made March 25th.

Two veteran Rice teachers receive national recognition

Rice Memorial High School Associate Principal for Student Life, Lloyd Hulburd of Shelburne and History teacher, Sarah Smith Conroy of South Burlington have both been recognized as Claes Nobel Educators of Distinction by the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS). This award, established in honor of the NSHSS founder Claes Nobel, identifies teacher role models who have made a lasting difference in their classroom and a significant contribution to the nominating student’s academic career. 2010 graduate Emeline Gaujac nominated Hulburd; Senior Greta Zarro nominated Conroy.

Denise Welch Land ’97 selected as Southern Vermont College distinguished alumna



Denise Welch Land ’97 of Utica, N.Y., has been recognized by Southern Vermont College as the 2011 Distinguished Alumna. The Distinguished Alumni award is given to an alumna or alumnus of Southern Vermont College or its predecessor, St. Joseph College, in recognition of a combination of career, community service and personal achievements. Land will be honored at the College’s Commencement in May.

Vermont Gynecology is the new medical practice four board-certified clinicians

Vermont Gynecology is the new medical practice of Kym Boyman, MD; Cheryl Gibson, MD; and Susan F. Smith, MD, all formerly of Vermont Women's Choice. Joining these doctors is Nurse Practitioner Linda Davidson, MS, APRN. All four board-certified clinicians have practiced in the greater Burlington area for many years. In this full-service gynecologic specialty practice, they provide care ranging from annual well woman exams to women's health problem management to minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.

A 2004 graduate of Lake Forest College, George worked for the advertising agency GSD&M Idea City in Chicago as an associate media buyer, where her clients included companies such as AT&T, MasterCard, and BMW. George will focus on media buying for clients including Webster Bank and State Street.
