John S. Hall Elected to SJA Board of Trustees

Local business owner and former state official John S. Hall is the newest member of St. Johnsbury Academy’s Board of Trustees. President of St. Johnsbury-based Caledonia Supply Co. Inc since 1970 and St. Johnsbury Town Manager from 1996-2000, Hall served as Commissioner of the Vermont Department of Housing and Community Affairs from 2003-2008. Earlier, he served as executive director of the Northeastern Vermont Development Association (NVDA), from 2001-2003.

Channel 17/Town Meeting TV Announces New Channel 17 Trustee for Burlington

Channel 17/Town Meeting TV welcomes Dave Hartnett, Burlington's Ward 4 City Councilor, to the Channel 17 Trustees. Hartnett was appointed by Burlington City Council President, Bill Keogh to replace outgoing councilor and Channel 17 Trustee, Nancy Kaplan. Kaplan served for two years beginning in 2009 and helped oversee new contract negotiations with Comcast cable.

Tenth Annual Rose Black Nursing Excellence Awards

The tenth annual Rose Black Nursing Excellence Awards at Central Vermont Medical Center were presented to three women who provide their patients with superior nursing care. Dr. Percy Black, Rose Black’s son, welcomed everyone and gave thanks to today’s award recipients and all of the nurses at CVMC, on behalf of his mother and the Black family.

The nurses honored this year represent CVMC’s hospital, Woodridge Rehabilitation and Nursing, and the CVMC Medical Group.

CUPS Office announces Service-Learning Planning Grants and Awards

On May 3rd, the Community-University Partnerships and Service-Learning Office (CUPS) announced the recipients of its Engaged Scholarship Awards at the 7th Annual CUPS Recognition Reception. Nominations were judged on the quality of engaged scholarship demonstrated in courses between Spring 2010 and 2011 semesters. The Outstanding Service-Learning Student Award was presented to Alex Finn, an active member of the Dewey House for Civic Engagement.

Rachel Johnson named to First Endowed Professorship in College of Agriculture & Life Sciences

The University of Vermont College of Agriculture and Life Sciences has named Rachel K. Johnson, PhD, RD, the inaugural Robert L. Bickford, Jr. Green and Gold Professor — the first endowed professorship in that college. Dr. Johnson has been a member of the college's faculty since 1991 and served as its dean from 2001 to 2008. Her appointment as the Bickford Green and Gold Professor begins July 1, 2011.
