Albany College of Pharmacy faculty member receives grant for leukemia research

Karen Glass, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences’ Vermont Campus, has been awarded a three-year research grant totaling $353,400 from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Glass will seek to identify new ways to prevent and treat a type of leukemia called Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).

Habitat ReStore team announced

Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity has announced their team at Vermont’s first Habitat for Humanity ReStore located in Williston. Since opening the store in September 2012, their dedicated staff and volunteers have collected used (and some new) building materials, appliances, furniture, and home goods to resell to the public. The proceeds are then used to build new Habitat homes in northwest Vermont.

Burlington College announces additions to board of trustees

Burlington College Board Chair Adam Dantzscher announced the appointment of three business leaders to the College’s Board of Trustees. The new trustees are Yves Bradley, Vice President of Commercial Brokerage at Pomerleau Real Estate; Tom Torti, President of the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce; and Megan Smith, Commissioner of Tourism and Marketing for the State of Vermont. They have been elected to 3-year terms.

Attorney Katherine Kramer joins Langrock Sperry & Wool as associate

Katherine (Katie) B. Kramer has joined Langrock Sperry & Wool, LLP as an associate, working primarily on litigation matters.

Prior to joining the firm, Katie clerked for Chief Judge Christina Reiss of the United States District Court for the District of Vermont, and for the Honorable Andrew Guilford of the United States District Court for the Central District of California. In addition, she practiced for two years at a large New York law firm where she focused on commercial litigation, and received the firm’s Pro Bono Distinction award.

WEC general manager to retire at end of June

Washington Electric Cooperative’s Board of Directors and General Manager Avram Patt wish to let our members, friends, colleagues and the public know that Avram will be retiring on June 30th after serving for 16 ½ years in that position.

Champlain Housing Trust recognizes four housing leaders at annual meeting

The Champlain Housing Trust presented four community leaders with awards at its annual meeting Saturday night with more than 150 attending. Attendees also elected members of the Board of Directors, and six staff were recognized for their ten years of work at the organization.

Brian Pine, the City of Burlington’s Housing Director in the Community and Economic Development Office, was presented with the Tim McKenzie Award for Outstanding Contributions to Perpetual Affordability, the Housing Trust’s oldest award which was named after the organization’s founding director.
