Rizzo receives 2014 Kidder Award

The UVM Alumni Association has named Donna Rizzo, professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences, winner of the 2014 George V. Kidder Outstanding Faculty Award.

The annual award honors full time faculty for excellence in teaching and advising, for their ability to inspire students and have a lasting influence on their lives and for their positive impact on campus life beyond the classroom. Dozens of faculty, alumni and students wrote in support of her nomination.

Nancy Illemann Rock, Jay Peak Resort receive Vermont Travel Industry awards at their conference

On behalf of Governor Shumlin, Vermont Tourism Deputy Commissioner Steve Cook awarded Steve Wright and Jay Peak Resort the inaugural SMART Award for Creative Marketing in Tourism at the 31st Annual Vermont Travel Industry Conference at the Equinox Resort & Spa in Manchester, Vt. on April 2. The Governor’s SMART Award for Marketing Excellence in Social Media for Arts, Recreation, and Tourism honors a tourism-related business, region, association or special event that has leveraged the Vermont brand through a cohesive marketing strategy.

Maple Capital Management in Montpelier announces two recent hires

Maple Capital Management in Montpelier has announced that they have hired two new employees.

Adam P. Sicard

Adam joined Maple Capital Management in February of 2014 as Vice President of Operations. Prior to joining Maple Capital Adam was the Vice President of Operations at Dwight Asset Management. He has a BS in Business Management/Finance from Providence College and is currently completing his Masters in Accounting.

The Stern Center for Language and Learning announces two new members to its board of directors

The Stern Center for Language and Learning, a nonprofit learning center with locations in Williston, Vermont and West Lebanon, New Hampshire elected the following new members to its Board of Directors:

Chris Economou is a financial advisor for Morgan Stanley. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Vermont. Chris has also worked for UBS Financial Services, Inc as a Senior Registered Client Service Associate. He sits on the Development and Finance committee at the Stern Center.

UVM faculty Connor, Woodruff win Engaged Educator Award

UVM faculty members David Conner and Kate Woodruff have won the Vermont Campus Compact Engaged Educator Award for 2014. This state-wide award recognizes “faculty, staff, or other campus leaders who are committed to advancing the engagement agenda on their campus” and who demonstrate long-term commitment to, and demonstrable impact in, their engagement. Conner and Woodruff were chosen from a pool of candidates representing all eighteen member institutions of Vermont Campus Compact. They will receive this award at the Vermont Campus Compact Engaged Campus Forum on April 4.

Family Nurse Practitioner Kathleen Bryant presents at the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners

“Group Visits for Obese Children in a Primary Care Pediatric Setting” was the topic of a poster under the “Innovations in Practice” category that Kathleen Bryant, FNP, APN-BC presented in Boston at the recent National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) 35th Annual Conference on Pediatric Health.

Kathleen defined the Obesity Epidemic, nearly 17% of children age 2-19 are obese, and discussed the medical and psychosocial consequences of obesity.
