Roger Allbee to speak at Vermont Tech’s 2014 commencement ceremony

Vermont Tech is pleased to announce Roger Allbee as commencement speaker at the college’s commencement ceremony, taking place on May 17, 2014. Mr. Allbee, former Vermont Secretary of Agriculture, Food and Markets, will also be awarded the honorary degree Doctor of Science, honoris causa. The ceremony will take place in the Shapiro Field House on the Norwich University campus in Northfield, VT.

Monica Sargent honored as lifelong advocate for educational opportunity

Monica Sargent, an educational outreach counselor with the Vermont Student Assistance Corp., was honored this month for her lifetime of leadership in advocating for low-income and first-generation college students.

Sargent received a standing ovation as she received the Marian Belgrave-Howard Award from the New England Educational Opportunity Association, or NEOA, at its annual conference in Connecticut.

Belgrave-Howard was the founding president of the organization and presented the award to Sargent.

Alison Cummings of Lang McLaughry Real Estate, appointed branch leader of Londonderry office

Staige Davis, CEO and President of Lang McLaughry Real Estate has announced that Alison Cummings has been appointed to serve as Branch Leader for the firm’s Londonderry office. Cummings specializes in residential real estate. She has been active in the Southern Vermont market, based in Londonderry, VT since 2006. HowardCenter Board of Trustees welcomes Daniel Calder

HowardCenter Board of Trustees has elected Daniel Calder of Winooski as its newest member. Calder is a pharmacy technician at Hannaford. He has an Associate of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies from the Community College of Vermont and is the chair of HowardCenter’s Developmental Services standing committee, comprised of Board members, community representatives, and service area leadership. Through his representation on the board, Calder says he hopes to focus on “how decisions may impact the individuals who are served by HowardCenter and how the organization affects the community.”

EPA awards 3 Environmental Merit awards to Vermont recipients

The U.S. EPA recognized three organizations and/or individuals from Vermont at the 2014 Environmental Merit Awards ceremony. The Vermont awardees were among 26 recipients across New England honored for contributing to improving New England’s environment.

Each year EPA’s New England office recognizes individuals and groups whose work has protected or improved the region’s environment in distinct ways. The merit awards, given out since 1970, honor individuals and groups who have shown particular ingenuity and commitment in their efforts.

Maple Capital welcomes new shareholders

Maple Capital is pleased to announce the addition of two new shareholders to the firm. Steve Killoran joined Maple Capital Management in 2009 as Vice President of Business Development. Prior to that Steve worked at Sentinel Investments where he most recently held the position of Vice President—National Accounts. Craig Behnke, CFA joined Maple Capital in 2010 as an Equity Analyst. Prior to that Craig Served as a Senior Investment Analyst at Prima Capital and a Portfolio Manager at Lexicord Capital.
