Gov Phil Hoff to serve as honorary chairman of VSAC 50th anniversary council

The Vermont Student Assistance Corp. has announced that Governor Phil Hoff will serve as honorary chairman of its 50th Anniversary Council.

VSAC was created by the Legislature in 1965 to help Vermonters plan and pay for college and it was Governor Hoff’s leadership that made higher education a life-changing opportunity for Vermonters, said Scott Giles, president and CEO of VSAC.

BMH’s Richardson elected chair of VT Hospital Emergency Preparedness Coordinator committee

Brattleboro Memorial Hospital announced that its Director of Emergency Services, Brian Richardson, has been elected Co-Chair of the Vermont Hospital Emergency Preparedness Coordinator (VTHEPC) Committee.

Richardson joins Co-Chair Chris Lackney of Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshend and Secretary John Berino from UVM Medical Center Hospital in Burlington as leaders of the VTHEPC committee, which is comprised of emergency preparedness coordinators from 14 participating Vermont hospitals and the state department of health.

Merchants Bank announces Luis Arnaut, project management specialist

Marie Thresher, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President, announces Luis Arnaut joined Merchants Bank as Project Manager. Arnaut has over 14 years of experience in project management and process improvement. He began his career as a software engineer and brings both technical knowledge and project management skills to the bank. He holds a B.S. in Telecommunications, with specialization in Informatics. Arnaut currently resides in South Burlington, VT.

Eric Sandberg promoted to senior vice president at National Life Group

Eric Sandberg has been promoted to senior vice president at National Life Group and will assume responsibilities as chief risk officer.

Sandberg will continue to serve as chief actuary.

“Eric’s mix of skills, experience and perspective are exactly what is needed to support our strategy and take our company to the next level,” said Robert Cotton, chief financial officer and executive vice president.

Sandberg joined National Life Group in 2012 as chief actuary.

Vermont nurse selected as recipient of National Leadership Award

A Vermont nurse who has devoted her professional career to improving the quality of health care will be recognized as one of the 10 recipients of the new Breakthrough Leaders in Nursing award created by the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action, a joint initiative of AARP and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Frances (Fran) Keeler, MSN, RN, DBA, was a nurse administrator in Massachusetts for 18 years before moving to Vermont, where she is a health system regulator. Her work has led to improvements in the use of safe restraints and seclusion for patients with mental illness.

Bill Orleans joins the Lake Champlain Chamber of Commerce board of directors

Bill Orleans, president of PP&D Brochure Distribution and the BLUE MAP, has become of a member of the Lake Champlain Chamber of Commerce Board.

He has been a member of the Tourism Committee for the past twenty-five years and is currently a co-chairperson of that committee. “I’m hoping to add my experience in tourism to the board and increase the focus on promoting Burlington,” Orleans says.

Merchants Bank announces Wanda Oczechowski, government banking and cash management account manager
