Bryan Young appointed CEO of The First National Bank of Orwell

The First National Bank of Orwell, a community bank serving Orwell and Shoreham, Vermont and surrounding communities since 1863, today announced the appointment of Bryan S. Young, age 38, as Chief Executive Officer, effective January 1, 2016. He succeeds his father, Mark S. Young, age 62, who has served as the chief executive since 1979. Mark will continue as President, Loan Officer, and member of the Board of Directors.

Retired Rutland Regional physician inducted into Vermont Ski and Snowboard Museum Hall of Fame

Dr. Edgar Holmes, III, MD orthopaedic surgeon and principal founder of the Vermont Orthopaedic Clinic was recently inducted into the Vermont Ski and Snowboard Museum Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame honors athletes, pioneers of Vermont skiing and special contributors who promoted and or contributed to the sport of skiing in Vermont. Dr. Holmes was inducted as someone who “exemplifies the best of what a person can do in ski-related sports medicine and in being a support person to elite skiers and skiers of all levels.”

Lyndon State College to name maintenance building in memory of beloved employee

The maintenance building on the campus of Lyndon State College will be named the Arthur W. Peake Maintenance Facility in memory of former Lyndon employee Art Peake. The motion was unanimously approved by the Vermont State Colleges Board of Trustees.

“Naming a building after Art cannot begin to memorialize the impact he had on our physical campus and community,” said President Joe Bertolino, “however, it is one, powerful thing we can do to preserve and honor his memory.”

Vermont Community Foundation announces new board member

The Vermont Community Foundation welcomed Allyson Laackman to its board of directors this fall. The Community Foundation’s Board of Directors is elected by the Foundation’s 150 members.

Vermont State Colleges board of trustees approve Inaugural Hall of Fame members

The Vermont State Colleges (VSC) Board of Trustees approved six nominees for the new Vermont State Colleges’ Hall of Fame. Five distinguished alumni awardees representing each college and one at large awardee singled out for extraordinary contribution to the VSC will be honored at the March 9 VSC Hall of Fame inaugural celebration.
