Redmond and Kornheiser appointed to State Women’s Commission
Speaker of the House Mitzi Johnson has appointed two new Commissioners to Vermont Commission on Women: Marybeth Christie Redmond of Essex and Emilie Kornheiser of Brattleboro. Marybeth Christie Redmond’s work and career have focused on utilizing writing and public communications to raise up the voices of women, girls, and the most marginalized residing in our state. She currently serves as a partner in the Vermont Story Lab project, training nonprofit communicators to weave storytelling through the fabric of their organizations to increase impact and reach.
UCS welcomes Teal to Psychiatric Medical Team
United Counseling Service welcomes Laurie Teal, APRN, as the newest member of the Psychiatric Medical Team (PMT). The PMT supports all Divisions of UCS by providing medical treatments for psychiatric conditions and ensuring clinical standards of services are being maintained. The team also provides psychiatric consultation to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC). “We are excited to have Laurie on board,” says UCS Executive Director, Lorna Mattern.
Powell named top 25 most influential women by CEO Connection for second year
Green Mountain Power President and CEO Mary Powell was again named among the top 25 Most Influential Women of the Mid-Market by CEO Connection in 2017. This list recognizes the top 25 women in the US based on their ability to influence change, innovation, and standards for excellence in companies with annual sales between $100 million and $3 billion. GMP hopes trailblazing CEOs like Powell will inspire the next generation of female leaders to break barriers and take chances. Other winners include the CEO of Buffalo Wild Wings and Charlotte Russe.
14th Star Brewing to receive Timothy Bovat Civic Involvement Award
The Franklin County Regional Chamber of Commerce will present the 2017 Tim Bovat Civic Involvement Award to 14th Star Brewing Founders Steve Gagner and Matt Kehaya, and CEO Andrea Gagner. The presentation will be made during the Tim’s House Annual Golf Classic on Friday, August 18th at the Champlain Country Club, following lunch at approximately 2:00 pm. The Golf Classic is held annually to benefit Tim’s House, a transitional housing shelter built in Mr Bovat’s memory.

Secretary Condos inducted as President-elect of the NASS
On Monday, July 10th Vermont Secretary of State Jim Condos was chosen by a bi-partisan group of his peers as President-elect of the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) at the Summer Conference in Indianapolis. NASS serves as a medium for Secretaries across the country to share ideas and best practices in the development of public policy as it relates to elections and voting, business services and policy relating to state archival work and records management.
CLR graduates four new LNAs
Centers for Living and Rehabilitation (CLR), a part of Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC), has graduated four new licensed nursing assistants (LNAs). Holly Buckley, Brian Cody, Laura Lampman, and Kourtnie Lamson finished the 3-week, 120-hour course on June 6 and passed their LNA examination on June 26. All four graduates previously worked at CLR in the role of care assistant. As LNAs, they will gain valuable work experience with both long-term residents and medical-surgical patients. Buckley, Cody, and Lampman each want to complete registered nurse training.
