SVMC ExpressCare practice in Bennington welcomes Physician Assistant Racela

Southwestern Vermont Medical Center’s (SVMC) ExpressCare in Bennington is pleased to welcome Physician Assistant Jonna Racela. With this appointment, Racela also joins the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Putnam Medical Group. Racela earned her certificate in Physician Assistant Studies from Yale University School of Medicine in Connecticut and a Master of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska. She completed her undergraduate education in biology from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams.

Governor Scott appoints Senecal to Vermont Commission On Women

Governor Phil Scott has appointed Lisa Senecal to serve on the Vermont Commission on Women (VCW), the state’s non-partisan commission working to advance rights and opportunities for women and girls. “Lisa’s background and commitment to raising awareness for issues of importance to women, and leadership in advocating to advance opportunities for women will be a tremendous asset on the Commission and for its important mission,” said Governor Phil Scott. “I thank Lisa for her willingness to serve in this role, and as a leader in Vermont.”

Department of Forests, Parks & Recreation welcomes Wood Energy Coordinator

The Department of Forests, Parks & Recreation (FPR) recently welcomed a new staff member, Emma Hanson, who will serve as Wood Energy Coordinator. She will be tasked with helping to implement the Vermont Comprehensive Energy Plan’s goal of doubling wood fuel’s share of building heating by 2035. Achieving this goal will help in reducing the State’s dependence on imported heating oil and support forest landowners by providing markets for the products of forest management.

Maris recognized as Emory University’s Alumni Inaugural Class of 40 Under Forty

SVC is proud to announce that Melinda Maris, PhD, Dean of Teaching and Learning, Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning, and Associate Professor of Biology, has been selected to the inaugural class of 40 Under Forty, a recognition presented from Emory University’s Alumni Association. More than 150 alumni from around the world and across vocations were nominated for this distinction. Through outstanding professional accomplishments and civic endeavors, Dr Maris was one of 39 alumni peers chosen for this honor.

Sister Janice Ryan to receive Lifetime Achievement Award for Community Service

Vermont State Police announce promotion of Major Ingrid R Jonas

Thomas D Anderson, Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety and Colonel Matthew T Birmingham, Director of the Vermont State Police, are pleased to announce the promotion of Ingrid R Jonas to the rank of Major. Major Jonas of Waterbury was promoted from Captain, Director of Fair and Impartial Policing & Community Affairs, where she has served since 2016. Her new assignment is Commander of the Support Services Division.

2017 Governor’s Arts Awards recipients announced

The Vermont Arts Council, in association with Governor Phil Scott, is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2017 Governor’s Arts Awards. These awards are presented annually to recognize outstanding individual and organizational contributions to the arts. Awards are given to educators, artists, performers, advocates, administrators, volunteers, and scholars. In 2017, Vermonters will be recognized for their contributions in five categories.
