Trevor Neal, MD, joins SVMC’s Emergency Department

The Emergency Department at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC) is pleased to welcome Trevor Neal, MD. With this appointment, Neal also joins the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Putnam Medical Group. Neal earned his medical degree from University of Colorado School of Medicine and completed a combined internal medicine and emergency medicine residency at Vidant Medical Center and East Carolina University, Brody School of Medicine in North Carolina. He holds a bachelor’s in English from Whitman College in Washington State.

Chamber Education and Leadership Director selected for education fellowship

Mary Anne Sheahan, Education and Leadership Director for the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce, has been selected by the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) to study education attainment and workforce development along with 20 other chamber of commerce professionals from communities throughout the United States. The Fellowship for Education Attainment is an immersive executive development program that provides chamber of commerce professionals with education and tools to improve the cradle-to-career education pipeline in the communities they serve.

New Foodbank board member brings southwestern Vermont voice to the table

Yesterday the Vermont Foodbank’s Board of Directors unanimously voted in Liz Ruffa as a new member, to serve a three year term. A resident of East Dorset, Vermont, Liz Ruffa has dedicated her career to building networks that support community and economic development. She is the Executive Director of Northshire Grows Inc, a food systems network that connects Bennington County farms and food businesses with their communities. Northshire Grows focuses on farm viability issues, market channel development, and Farm to School programming.

Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes recognizes outstanding efforts to make the world a better place

The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes, an award that celebrates inspiring, public-spirited young people from diverse backgrounds all across North America, announces its 2017 winners. Established in 2001 by author TA Barron, the Barron Prize annually honors 25 outstanding young leaders ages 8 to 18 who have made a significant positive difference to people and the environment. Up to 20 top winners each receive $5,000 to support their service work or higher education.

UVM's Larner College of Medicine appoints first director of health services research

The Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont has announced the appointment of Adam Atherly, PhD, as the College’s first director of health services research and professor of medicine, effective February 1, 2018. Atherly is currently a professor of health systems, management and policy at the Colorado School of Public Health.
