Franklin County Chamber of Commerce presents Timothy Bovat Civic Involvement Award to Martha’s Community Kitchen

The Franklin County Regional Chamber of Commerce will present the 2019 Timothy Bovat Civic Involvement Award to Brother Bob Begley, ofs; Chef Cathy Cromack, and the staff & volunteers of Martha’s Community Kitchen. The award presentation will be held at the Chamber’s January Mixer on Thursday, January 16, 5:30 pm at Peoples Trust Company’s Kingman Street Branch.

Capt Philip Bourn, Vermont Army National Guard, receives Gen Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award

Every year commands across the Army, the Army National Guard, and the Army Reserve convene a board to select their respective nominees for the Gen. Douglas McArthur Leadership Award. Officers holding the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, First Lieutenant, Captain, Warrant Officer 1, and Warrant Officer 2 are all eligible for the award.

“Over 100,000 company grade officers were eligible for the award,” said Lt. Gen Walter E. Piatt, director of the Army staff, who presided over the ceremony. He added that officers had less than a .03% chance of being selected.

William Shouldice & Associates LLC firm expands

William Shouldice & Associates LLC is pleased to announce that Emma C Shouldice joined the firm on January 2, 2020. A 2019 graduate of Providence College, Emma received a Bachelor of Arts Degree, majoring in Political Science with a Certificate in Business Studies.

Prior to graduation, Emma interned for Rhode Island Congressman David Cicilline, William Shouldice & Associates LLC, and Advocacy Solutions LLC in Providence, Rhode Island.

Jo-Anne Unruh “Deserves a Crown” for serving the New England community

Jo-Anne Unruh was recognized at the Patriots vs Dolphins game on Sunday, December 29th. She was honored for the significant contributions she has made as a volunteer for the Special Needs Support Center of the Upper Valley (SNSC). This is a part of the New England Patriots “That Deserves a Crown” program, in partnership with Crown Royal. It’s an opportunity to celebrate community volunteers like Jo-Anne and share her story with other fans to encourage them to get involved in their communities.

Vermont’s Congressional Delegation recognizes Vermont US Service Academy nominees

US Senator Patrick Leahy, US Senator Bernie Sanders, and US Representative Peter Welch recognized 22 young Vermonters who were nominated to the United States Service Academies to be members of the Class of 2024. At an annual reception in the Cedar Creek Room at the Vermont State House, nominees from across Vermont received nomination certificates signed by each member of the Vermont Congressional Delegation.

The names of this year’s nominees, selected by Leahy, Sanders, and Welch through a competitive vetting process, and forwarded to the Academies for final decisions, are:

Ebrahim Ghazali, MD joins SVMC Pediatrics

Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC) welcomes Ebrahim Ghazali, MD, to SVMC Pediatrics and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Putnam Physicians. Dr. Ghazali received his medical degree at the Texas Tech University Health and Science Center and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston in Texas. He completed his residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Texas. Since January, he has worked as a contract physician for Signify Health in Dallas, TX. He is board certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Jane Arthur elected NVRH Board Chair

Jane Arthur, who has served on the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital (NVRH) Board for six years, was elected NVRH Board Chair during the organization’s annual meeting on Tuesday, December 3. The Board Chair, which serves as the first point of contact for the Board of Trustees, is responsible for ensuring that the Board’s objectives are met and that all members are participating in the shared governance of the hospital.
