David Serkin Ludwig, dean and director of the music division at the Juilliard School in New York City and composer-in-residence at the Lake Champlain Chamber Music Festival in Winooski, has been named one of four recipients of this year's Arts and Letters Award in Music by the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

Christian Meyer of Montpelier has been appointed executive director of the Central Vermont Regional Planning Commission, after serving in the post on an acting basis since October.

Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger has appointed Michael LaChance as chief engineer of the Fire Department, pending approval of the City Council. LaChance currently serves as deputy chief of administration and public information, where he has worked to strengthen the department’s recruitment strategies and efforts.
