ACLU honors housing advocate Brenda Siegel with civil liberties award

The ACLU of Vermont presented housing advocate Brenda Siegel with its highest honor, the David W. Curtis Civil Liberties Award, at the organization's 2023 annual meeting celebration Oct. 25.

The Curtis Award recognizes changemakers in Vermont who have meaningfully advanced human rights and civil liberties in the state. Siegel was cited for “her courageous advocacy on behalf of people experiencing housing insecurity in Vermont.”

Shawn Gordon joins DRM intellectual property group

Shawn Gordon has joined the northern New England law firm Downs Rachlin Martin as an attorney  in the firm’s intellectual property group. Prior to joining DRM, Gordon had his own practice based in Montpelier.

Cawley receives AARP’s highest community-service award

David Cawley of Burlington, retired manager of Vermont Energy Investment Corp., has been named 2023 winner of the AARP Andrus Award for Community Service in Vermont. The award recognizes outstanding AARP volunteers and members who are making a powerful difference in their communities in ways that are consistent with AARP’s mission and vision and that inspire others to service.
