Museums for America grant enhances key museum mission
SHELBURNE, Vt. - (Aug. 18, 2008) Shelburne Museum Director Stephan Jost announced that the museum has been awarded a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The Museums for America grant will support education programs at the museum, a core part of the museum's mission.

UNEMPLOYMENT EDGES UP SLIGHTLY TO 4.8% IN JULY, VERMONT'S ANNUAL JOB SLIPS DOWN 0.1%.
Montpelier (August 15, 2008)-- The Vermont Department of Labor announced today that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for July 2008 was 4.8 percent, up one-tenth of a point from the revised June rate of 4.7% and up one point from a year ago.

Woodbury College, Champlain College Announce Merger

Union Bank announces new Danville Office
Danville VT, August 14, 2008 - Union Bank has announced the official opening of its new Danville office, located in the Marty's 1st Stop complex, Route 2 in Danville. Secretary of Administration Michael K. Smith today released General Fund revenue results for the month of July, the first month of Fiscal Year 2009. General Fund revenues totaled $96.66 million for July 2008, +$8.07 million or +9.11% above the $88.58 million consensus revenue forecast for the month and year-to-date.

There were 713 new regular benefit claims for Unemployment Insurance last week, a decrease of 138 from the week before. Altogether 7,181 new and continuing claims were filed, 148 less than a week ago and 1,861 more than a year earlier. In addition, the Department processed 2,310 claims for benefits under Emergency Unemployment Compensation, 2008, an increase of 757 from last week.
