Vermont Business Magazine Vermont State University (VTSU) announced today that it received accreditation from its governing body, the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) at its June 16 meeting held in York Harbor, Maine. NECHE found that VTSU met all nine accreditation standards, which range from academic programming to integrity and transparency. “Vermont State University is ready to unify on July 1, and this announcement validates the hard work and determination of our leaders to get us to this moment,” added Mike Smith, Interim President for Vermont State University.

The substructure of the economy was in turmoil, including basic services for children. This became an even greater concern as one of their elementary school-aged children began to identify as gender nonbinary.

Vermont State Police On June 18, 2023, at approximately 0445 hours, members of the Vermont State Police St Albans Field Station were dispatched to a single-car crash on Water Tower Road in the Town of Berkshire. Upon the arrival of first responders, a white Toyota Tundra was located off the southbound shoulder of the roadway. The operator and sole occupant of the vehicle was identified as Carson Smith (16) of Berkshire, VT.

Vermont Business Magazine Governor Scott and Senator Sanders invite the media and the public to participate in a celebration of the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail (LVRT) – recently completed and now the longest rail trail in New England. The Governor will bike the entire 93-mile trail from Swanton to St. Johnsbury and make brief water stops along the trail with Senator Sanders, who secured the original federal grant to help establish the LVRT back in 2005. 

Northeastern Vermont Development Association The State is seeking to identify property and business owners interested in supporting plug-in electric vehicle (EV) charging or providing services associated with the installation and management of charging. Those interested in partnering with the State can fill out the survey to offer their collaboration. The survey will help identify opportunities for potential charging locations or EV charging services. Survey responses will be shared to facilitate potential partnering discussions between property owners/managers, charging service providers, and installation contractors. 

Vermont Business Magazine Vermonters are invited to contribute to an inspiring community project that will raise $160,000 to honor the former residents of St. Joseph’s Orphanage with a new memorial installation that will be located along a future accessible path connecting the Burlington Greenway to North Avenue. It is on this very same land that some 13,000 former residents of the orphanage roamed and played as children over the 120 years that the facility operated (1854-1974); infants and youth were placed there from across the State of Vermont through the facility’s history. 

Vermont Business Magazine Free tickets are now available for popular tours of Kingdom Community Wind in Lowell, Vt. Each summer, experts from Green Mountain Power (GMP) have hosted dozens of visitors looking to learn more about wind energy that’s produced in Vermont. This summer’s tours will be at 10 am on June 28 and July 19. The 21 turbines in Lowell have been producing clean energy since 2012, and visitors get to see two of them up close and learn about how they work. 

Vermont Business Magazine KeyBank Vermont employees joined in community projects completed during KeyBank’s 32nd Neighbors Make The Difference Day on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.  Approximately 45 Vermont-based employees joined their KeyBank teammates across the nation in leaving their offices to volunteer for local nonprofits across the state.  

Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Racial Justice Alliance has announced Richard Kemp Center plans for Juneteenth Weekend. Richard Kemp Center Juneteenth activities span across the weekend. The Richard Kemp Center will host a Juneteenth Open House from 1:00 PM till 6:00 PM on Saturday, June 17th.  The Open House will feature a Young, Gifted and Black exhibition, I am Vermont Too, local Black artists, raffles and prizes and more. Folks will have an opportunity for a first glimpse at the Richard Kemp Center Wall of Black Vermont History. There will be “old school” R&B music and food and beverages for guests.  

Saint Michael’s College It was a weekend to remember for 950 alumni who returned for a glorious Reunion 2023 from Friday, June 2 through Sunday, June 4. This Reunion was a special celebration for the Class of 1973, who came home after 50 years and had the honor of induction as Golden Knights on Friday evening (bottom photo). The 3s and 8s classes also enjoyed class events that night, at venues from Winooski to Burlington. The Purple and Gold Brunch on Saturday highlighted the College’s outstanding alumni awardees, including seven Alumni of the Year and a posthumous award of the Fr. Mike Cronogue Award for Service for Chris Lee ’93, whom the SMC community lost too soon. The Trustees also presented Saint Michael’s President Lorraine Sterritt with a check for just over a half-million dollars from all reunion classes.
