Vermont Business Magazine The Community College of Vermont (CCV) held its graduation ceremony at Norwich University’s Shapiro Field House on June 1, 2024. More than 500 students received associate degrees. Students representing all 14 Vermont counties graduated, and students hail from 10 states and 11 countries. The youngest graduates are 17 and the oldest are 69. Also among the graduates are 68 veteran and military-connected graduates. More than 60% of the Class of 2024 are the first in their family to earn a college degree. The keynote address was delivered by Aly Richards, CEO of Let’s Grow Kids, Vermont’s campaign to ensure affordable access to high-quality care for all Vermont children.

VermontBiz The State of Vermont is recognizing the dedicated EMS and first responder professionals, volunteers and agencies for the essential public health services they provide in their communities, as part of the 50th annual National Emergency Medical Services Week celebration.

Governor Phil Scott called out the commitment and vital work of Vermont’s career and volunteer emergency service providers, in his proclamation declaring May 19 − 25 as EMS Week. With the theme of “Honoring Our Past. Forging Our Future,” the week of activities included showcasing local EMS agencies, and culminated in the annual presentation of awards honoring several individuals and EMS agencies for their outstanding efforts.

Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Department of Disabilities, Aging and Independent Living (DAIL) and the Vermont Department of Mental Health (DMH) will be seeking public comment on proposed updates to the Administrative Rules on Agency Designation. The Administrative Rules on Agency Designation apply to community mental health and developmental disability services providers, known as Designated Agencies (DAs) and Specialized Service Agencies (SSAs). They are designed to align service providers with Agency of Human Services expectations, ensuring that communities receive accessible services and supports.

Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont State Police is investigating a single-vehicle crash in which two men were killed and three others were injured Friday, May 31, 2024, in Colchester. The crash occurred at about 7:35 p.m. in the vicinity 1172 East Lakeshore Dr. while the vehicle was being pursued by members of the Colchester Police Department. Two occupants of the vehicle were pronounced dead on scene, and three other occupants were detained by police and subsequently transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington for treatment of injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

This year’s event is scheduled to take place August 4-11, 2024. Open Farm Week provides an excellent opportunity to connect with your community, engage with customers, and highlight the unique aspects of your farm. You can choose any day during the week to host an event, or host on multiple days during the week if your schedule allows! To ensure a memorable experience for visitors, Open Farm Week events must include an activity that is not part of the regular farm schedule. This could include tours of fields or barns, tastings, cooking demonstrations, workshops, direct product sales, and more.

VermontBiz Beginning Monday, June 24, Burlington School District’s great Burlington School Food Project team will once again provide summer meals at no charge to kids 18 and under. All meals are provided free to all children, regardless of where they live. Meals will be available Monday through Friday from June 24 to August 8 (excluding Thursday, July 4th, and Friday, July 5th). There are no fees or registration; children simply show up and eat!

VermontBiz Incidents involving dog attacks on Postal Service employees rose to more than 5,800 cases last year. As part of the USPS 2024 National Dog Bite Awareness Campaign, the organization is offering crucial information on how dog owners can be good stewards for safe mail delivery and ensure the safety of our employees.

The campaign begins Sunday, June 2, and runs through Sunday, June 9. This year’s theme is “Don’t let your dog bite the hand that serves you.” Spread the news of the campaign with the hashtag #dogbiteawareness.

VermontBiz On Saturday, June 1, over 30 Soldiers and Airmen with the Vermont National Guard will depart for Tambacounda and Kedougou, Senegal, to participate in a medical readiness exercise through the State Partnership Program.

Vermont service members will join colleagues from the New Hampshire National Guard, U.S. Army Southern European Task Force – Africa and the Austrian Bundesheer in Senegal for the exercise, which will run for about two weeks.
