On May 6, 2003, the Vermont State House of Representatives and the State Senate passed Concurrent House Resolution H.C.R. 112, honoring Vermont Federal Credit Union for its contribution to the communities in which it operates, on the occasion of its 50th Anniversary.
The resolution recognizes Vermont Federal Credit Union as an integral member of the financial services community; for providing needed financial services to over 20,000 Vermont consumers in six counties; for actively supporting the communities in which it does business through involvement in the March of Dimes, United Way, Vermont Special Olympics, and the American Cancer Society, the Credit Union contributed over $100,000 to community involvement projects over a three-year period; and for celebrating its 50th anniversary of improving the financial well-being of many Vermonters.

The National Association of County Agriculture Agents (NACAA) recently recognized several University of Vermont Extension employees for excellence in communication.
Larry Myott, Maple Specialist, Burlington Extension Office, was named National Winner for the newsletter “Maple Mainline”, distributed to Vermont sugarmakers and related industries twice yearly. Myott was also recognized as a Northeast United States regional finalist for personal news column, and website publication. Dr. Betsy Greene, Equine Specialist, UVM campus, was recognized as a Northeast United States regional finalist for direct promotional mailing, and Rick LeVitre, Dairy Management Specialist, Rutland Extension Office, was recognized as a National Finalist for a video/television program (Across the Fence).
Award winners will be honored at the NACAA Annual Meeting, Green Bay, WI, July 13 – 17, 2003.

Construction crews working on Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical
Center's expansion "topped out" the steel framework for the last of the
project's new structures on Friday, June 27, 2003. As is traditional, the
placing of the last piece of steel was marked with the installation of a
tree atop the building.
This was the 4th and last topping-out ceremony in the "Project for
Progress" and celebrated the completion of the steel framework for
Building 2, the new Diagnostic and Treatment Center. The DHMC expansion,
which will add 470,000 square feet to the existing medical center, is the
largest construction project underway in the state of New Hampshire. At
its completion, more than 800 workers, employed by 120 contractors and
subcontractors, will have been employed on the project.

the election of this year’s Board of Directors. Chairperson and Treasurer
is Linda Letourneau of Redstone Commercial Group; Hillary Mead of J.L.
Davis Realty is Vice-chair; Charlie Poulin of Pomerleau Real Estate is
Secretary; Barb Suprenant, of Investors Corporation of Vermont, is
outgoing chairperson; and Tony Blake, of V/T Commercial, is Director of
Marketing.
The CCREA is Northwestern Vermont’s largest commercial real
estate association with over 60 members. It is dedicated to enhancing the
services and professionalism of commercial real estate brokers in
Chittenden County and throughout the State of Vermont."

Bill Schubart of Hinesburg, Vermont, is the
winner of the 2003 Ralph Nading Hill, Jr. literary prize awarded annually
by Green Mountain Power and Vermont Life magazine.
Schubart's winning entry, a true humorous essay entitled "The
Black Bug," captures Vermont life in the 1950s as it tells of a prank
played by local Morrisville residents on the town's newest flatlander. Tom
Slayton, one of the judges and editor of Vermont Life commented, "Writing
humorously is an art. Bill Schubart's piece, "The Black Bug," is one of
those rare essays that attempts humor and achieves it. It also gives an
accurate picture of a rural Vermont community a half-century ago, and the
judges were charmed by it. We are delighted to publish Mr. Schubart's
story in the fall issue of Vermont Life." The fall issue of Vermont Life
will available in bookstores and newsstands in mid-August.

The Creative Services Department of WCAX-TV in Burlington, Vermont has been awarded two first place honors for Public Service and Promotion in the 2003 New York State Broadcasters Association Awards. The awards were presented at a ceremony in Lake George, New York on June 24, 2003.
The New York State Broadcasters Association conducted its 38th Annual Awards for Excellence in Broadcasting at the Sagamore Resort Hotel.
WCAX-TV Headwriter Thea Dion accepted the awards from host Regis Philbin. WCAX-TV was awarded first place in the television promotional category for its Buy Vermont First campaign, written and produced by Thea Dion. First place in the television public service category was awarded to the Home for the Holidays campaign, written and produced by Koi Boynton. Bruce Babbitt served as Art Director and Dan Burke served as videographer/editor on both projects.

Saint Michael's College will begin construction of two new residence halls
on June 30. This project, which will cost $14.9 million, including access
roads and landscaping, will complete a program begun in 1999 to replace
some existing housing and expand capacity in order to insure the college's
ability to house close to 100 percent of its undergraduate students on
campus. Currently some 90 percent of Saint Michael's students reside on
the campus of the liberal arts residential Catholic college located in
Colchester, five minutes from Burlington.
"Saint Michael's commitment to the liberal arts is predicated on education
in and out of the classroom," said Saint Michael's President Marc
vanderHeyden. "Therefore we need residences that provide congenial
settings for group study sessions, as well as for small, faculty-led
informal seminars, and these new residences will cultivate this

Vermont parents, grandparents and others have another
incentive to join, or continue contributing to, the Vermont Higher
Education Investment Plan (VHEIP), the state's "529 plan." Starting with
the 2004 tax year, VHEIP participants will be able to receive an income
tax credit of 5 percent of the first $2,000 contributed to an account, or
up to $100 per year per beneficiary. The provision was approved by the
2003 Legislature and signed into law by Gov. James Douglas on June 16.
Vermont joins 24 other states and the District of Columbia in enacting an
up-front incentive -- many states use a tax deduction -- for taxpayers
enrolled in the state's "529 plan," as the programs are known under the
Internal Revenue Code. Unlike a tax deduction, which reduces your taxable
income, a tax credit reduces the amount you owe in taxes. A deduction
generally favors taxpayers who can afford sizable contributions to an

WCAX-TV in Burlington, Vermont has been awarded first place honors in the small market television category of the 2003 Edward R. Murrow Awards Competition. WCAX-TV was honored for The Channel 3 News at 6:00.
The Edward R. Murrow Awards represent national competition among television and radio stations across the United States. Only regularly scheduled newscasts are eligible for entry in the “Best Newscast” category, and only one entry is allowed per news organization. The entry must represent the news organization's best effort at producing a newscast.

SGI already relies on UPS Supply Chain Solutions for service parts logistics in North America.
SGI service parts now will be distributed from UPS Supply Chain Solutions distribution centers and field stocking locations in Asia and Latin America. SGI’s customers will be able to use computer technicians trained by UPS Supply Chain Solutions, who can provide on-site repair service of selected SGI systems. SGI also will make use of UPS’s extensive small package network in Latin America.
