Extreme measures planned to get snowmobile racers back on track
ESSEX JUNCTION Organizers of the Rock Maple Extreme Snocross Snowmobile Races say that with less than three weeks to go before the Jan. 27-28 weekend of snowmobile racing that they are willing to say the show is on whether or not it snows.
Even if Mother Nature continues to be stingy with the white stuff, Champlain Valley Exposition and Rock Maple Racing officials say they are going to bring in the big guns snow-making guns, that is - to create some 18,000 cubic yards of snow. That should be enough to build the one-third of a mile circular race course, complete with tabletops, hairpin turns and extreme jumps in front of the Coca-Cola Grandstand.

OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR
Inaugural Address of Governor James H.
Douglas

The Vermont Way Forward

Mr. President, Madame Speaker, distinguished guests, my fellow
Vermonters:

Fifty years ago, on this same Thursday,
Robert Stafford presided, as Lieutenant Governor, over a joint assembly as
Vermont’s officers took their oaths and Governor Joseph Johnson delivered his
inaugural address.

Two years later, Governor Stafford would deliver his own
inaugural and note that, “There can be but one ultimate aim for all of us. It is to take the necessary action today
to make Vermont a better place in which to live in every spiritual, social and
economic sense for ourselves and our children.”

This unadorned, ageless declaration explains
succinctly the deep inspiration within him and reminds us today of our own
responsibilities.

BURLINGTON, Vt.-- Champlain College has created a regional center for computer forensics with major funding from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).

On December 28, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), who helped secure the funding, joined Champlain College President David F. Finney on campus to discuss the important role of the new Champlain College Center for Digital Investigation (C3DI), which received a $650,000 grant from the DOJ's Bureau of Justice Assistance.
The new center has been developed to advance three major initiatives. First, two new Champlain faculty members work with federal, state and local law enforcement investigators, performing digital investigations and adding capacity to law enforcement agencies in Vermont. Based at the Burlington Police Department, these investigators sift through digital evidence found on computers, cell phones, iPods and other digital devices so that crucial pieces of evidence can be applied to criminal investigations.

BURLINGTON, Vt.--Champlain College is building upon the success of some of its most innovative academic programs with the unveiling of the Emergent Media Center.
Directed by Ann DeMarle, who founded Champlain Colleges pioneering Electronic Game & Interactive Development program in 2004, the Center will strengthen connections between the international game and interactive development industries, Champlain students and faculty, and Vermont businesses. The Center will advance the use of emergent media such as games, social networks, blogs and wikis for broader purposes. This includes collaborating with organizations to develop serious games -- games that harness technology for non-entertainment purposes, such as to enhance learning and training or to create positive change.
