BURLINGTON, Vt.--The National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced this month the designation of Champlain College as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAEIAE).
The National Centers of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education Program provides "increased availability of learning in information assurance education through a network of leading institutions and authorities in Information Assurance (IA) education." The designation recognizes academic programs related to computer security and IA as well as an institution's overall commitment to solid IA practices. Champlain joins a group of 86 colleges such as Carnegie Mellon University, Boston University, Ohio State University, Norwich University and Pennsylvania State University in being recognized with this designation.

Burlington, VT - FreshTracks Capital II, L.P. ("FreshTracks"), a Middlebury-based venture capital fund with primary interest in Vermont investments, announced that it has invested $400,000 in ISIS of Burlington. This is the first investment in FreshTracks' second fund. ISIS designs, produces and markets outdoor apparel which is made by women and made exclusively for women, with its product being carried by top national retailers including REI, Title IX, and Orvis. The transaction was structured to accelerate the sales and marketing efforts of ISIS, as the company executes the next phase of its growth strategy, and considers raising additional expansion capital.

Chittenden Solid Waste District gets second option on Williston landfill future

At a May 23 meeting with his board of directors, CSWD General Manager Tom Moreau proposed a two-pronged approach to the planned Williston Landfill.
This project, 20 years in the planning, has been under legal attack from Williston residents who claim it is not needed, and could be a potential health hazard. Two citizens groups are opposed to the landfill. One, based in the Ledgewood Drive subdivision, a small community of 34 homes closest to the proposed site, has filed a lawsuit against CSWD. Thirty-seven plaintiffs living and owning lots on Ledgewood Drive are seeking to invalidate a 1992 agreement in which town officials promised the town would host a regional landfill. The group represents 20 households.
The other, Vermont Organized Communities Against Landfills (VOCAL), is a local citizens' group. VOCAL, is against the landfill for a variety of reasons.

The two-day event was hosted by the Iroquois Healthcare Alliance which represents 56 hospitals in Upstate New York. As a founding partner of The Choice Care Card, Robert is an expert in the consumer-driven health field. In his presentation, Robert focused on the integration of personal care accounts and wellness programs. Personal care accounts provide a new funding vehicle for basic healthcare expenses, and also provide employers a tax-advantage vehicle for employee wellness incentives.

Corrine Haddox holds a Master's in physical therapy and a bachelors in athletic training. She has been trained in the PRI concepts and is also a certified Pilates Instructor. She has experience with both the serious athlete and the "weekend warrior". She will be treating patients in PPRC's Waitsfield office at 271 Moulton Road.
Hannah Stuwe received her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from the University of Vermont in 2001 and her Master of Physical Therapy from Clarkson University in 2004. She has previosly worked in outpatient orthopedics at Walker Physical Therapy in Orange, CA and at Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas, CA. In her free time, she enjoys cycling, skiing and hiking.

BURLINGTON, Vt.--Champlain College Professor Dr. Gary Scudder has been awarded the Edward Phelps Lyman Professorship. The Professorship is awarded annually to a senior faculty member who-through a strong record of service, excellence in teaching and advising, and work on faculty and College committees-has been dedicated to students and to Champlain College.
Scudder is Champlain's social science coordinator and a professor of history. He also founded and directs the Global Modules program, an innovative means of opening Champlain's classrooms to a world of viewpoints. The Web-based forum can be inserted into just about any course, allowing Champlain students to share readings, discussions and projects with students in countries such as Jordan, India, Kenya, Austria, Australia, Canada, Morocco and the United Arab Emirates.
"Gary weaves politics, ancient and contemporary cultures and an appreciation of 'the other' into his courses," said President David F. Finney.

Stowe, VT - The United States Tennis Association has announced that the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Semifinal between the United States and Russia will be held at Topnotch Resort and Spa in Stowe, Vermont, July 14 15. The event is being organized in association with Grand Slam Tennis Tours.
"Grand Slam Tennis Tours (GSTT) has recently partnered with the USTA to become 'An Official Travel Partner of the USTA'," says Andrew Chmura, President of GSTT. "We are thrilled to bring Fed Cup competition to our home town of Stowe."
The Fed Cup is the world's largest international womens team competition. Two singles matches will take place on Saturday with two reverse singles and one doubles match on Sunday.
The USTA will construct a 3,000-seat stadium at Topnotch Resort and Spa. Based on previous Fed Cup Tie statistics, the presence of this event is expected to have significant economic impact for Stowe and surrounding areas.

NEW CEO APPOINTED AT CENTRAL VERMONT MEDICAL CENTER
Berlin, Vt - Trustees at Central Vermont Medical Center have announced the appointment of Judy Tarr of Damariscotta, Maine, as the new President and Chief Executive Officer. The appointment will be effective September 10, 2007, according to John Nicholls, Chair of the CVMC Board of Trustees. She will be replacing Daria V. Mason, who will be retiring at the end of June, after nearly thirty years of service at CVMC.

"I am pleased to report that the recruitment process was very inclusive and thorough. We reviewed an outstanding group of candidates from a national search and our decision was unanimous to offer the position to Judy Tarr," said Nicholls in making the announcement.
