Vermont Business Magazine The town of Fairlee will receive $3.6 million from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) to repair and update the water distribution system. Assistant to the Secretary for Rural Development Anne Hazlett today announced that the USDA overall is investing $256 million in 81 projects to improve water and wastewater infrastructure in rural areas in 35 states. Fairlee is in Orange County.

“No matter what zip code you live in, infrastructure is a foundation for quality of life and economic opportunity,” Hazlett said. “Through strong partnerships, USDA is ensuring that rural communities have the modern, reliable infrastructure they need to prosper.”

Vermont Business Magazine Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger today appointed Neale Lunderville as interim director of the city’s Community and Economic Development Office (CEDO), effective July 16, 2018. Lunderville has led Burlington Electric Department as general manager since July 2014. The mayor will ask the City Council to approve the appointment at its June 4 meeting.

Vermont Business Magazine The Washington, DC-based LGBTQ Victory Fund has awarded trans candidate Christine Hallquist awarded “Game Changer” status in her race for Vermont governor as a Democrat. The LGBTQ Victory Fund is the only national organization dedicated to electing LGBTQ leaders to public office. On Tuesday it endorsed 24 more LGBTQ candidates, raising to 133 the total number of candidates endorsed this cycle. Two newly endorsed candidates and three previously endorsed candidates were awarded Spotlight status, a designation given to state or local candidates in history-making races. Hallquist was awarded Game Changer status in her groundbreaking race for Vermont governor. She would be the first trans major party candidate for governor of any state if she were to win the Democratic nomination. Spotlight and Game Changer candidates receive additional support and services from Victory Fund to ensure they win on Election Day.*

Vermont Business Magazine Two Chevrolet dealership groups, North Country Chevy Dealers and Upstate NY Chevy Dealers, have taken the lead to be champions for their local school children in sponsoring $81,000 worth of empathy building and prevention programs. Thanks to their partnership with Puppets in Education, a program of non-profit Vermont Family Network in Williston, Vermont, twenty eight schools located in Chevy Dealer districts of New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont received a full day of free presentations for students in grades K-8.
