Vermont Business Magazine The Health Department has ordered more flu vaccine than usual to prepare for the increased demand, and is working closely with providers in getting their patients vaccinated. They are encouraging community partnerships to provide clinics where access may be limited, like at schools, community centers or assisted living facilities. Governor Scott is also urging Vermonters to stay vigilant to keep themselves, and by extension, keep schools safe. He also praised the new childcare hubs set up for when kids aren't in school on school days.

The PI tax is the most important revenue source. Meanwhile, the Rooms & Meals tax, the third most important, suffered along with the hospitality industry.

The Addison County Community Trust (ACCT) and Evernorth partnered to develop this highly energy-efficient, multi-family apartment building located on Armory Lane in close proximity to downtown Vergennes. Evernorth is the former Housing Vermont.

Vermont Business Magazine Today, the Vermont Legislature advanced to the governor a state budget that underscores the state’s commitment to the Vermont State Colleges System. The package includes an additional $56.1 million for the Vermont State Colleges System: $30 million of annual base funding, $23.8 million of emergency bridge funding to stabilize the colleges’ finances, and $2.3 million of Coronavirus Relief Funds (CRF) for workforce training to support Vermonters impacted by the pandemic. This brings the total state funding for this fiscal year to $68.6 million.

The Vermont State Economist Tom Kavet has asked once again that the Vermont Retail and Grocers Association (VRGA) share an updated survey with business owners throughout the state. The results of this survey will be used to assess the current impact of the pandemic and inform public policy in the State of Vermont.

Vermont Business Magazine Today, Mayor Miro Weinberger announced that he is appointing Kyle Dodson, the President and CEO of the Greater Burlington YMCA, to a new, temporary position titled Director of Police Transformation to help lead the City’s work to forge a new consensus on policing in Burlington. This work will include oversight of the Burlington Police Department’s planning, policy, and engagement efforts during a period in which the City is advancing a wide range of transformation efforts. Dodson will take a temporary leave of absence from his position at the YMCA to accept the position.

Vermont Business Magazine Weekly unemployment claims increased last week and are now higher than the same time last year by a small amount. For the week of June 11, 2016, there were 456 claims, up 39 from the previous week's total and 61 more than they were a year ago. By industry, claims tripled for Trade, were cut in half for Manufacturing, but were about the same for the other industrial segments. 

Vermont Business Magazine The Department of Public Service has announced $3,991,847 in grant awards to Internet Service Providers to serve over 1,651 eligible locations with broadband connections in response to COVID-19. Of those slated to receive service from the grant-funded projects, 804 lack a connection of 4/1 Mbps and 150 were identified as having a telehealth, distance learning, or telework need.

Vermont Business Magazine Wireless carrier T-Mobile brings 5G service to more parts of Vermont as it opens its first two stores in the state. And, the "Un-carrier" partners with Green Mountain Transit to provide Wi-Fi for riders.

T-Mobile announced the openings in a statementThursday,. With two stores serving South Burlington and Essex Junction, "T-Mobile aids in job creation while serving customers. And, the Un-carrier’s free Wi-Fi on public transit helps keep Vermont residents connected at a critical time."

T-Mobile (NASDAQ: TMUS) opens doors this week in South Burlington and Essex Junction — the company’s first two brick and mortar stores in the state — bringing its retail presence to Vermont for the first time and creating more than a dozen new local jobs. T-Mobile also announced a new partnership with Green Mountain Transit to provide free Wi-Fi service to their riders.
