Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Department of Health reported May 28 that COVID-19 cases are down and hospitalizations also have fallen and the number of patients with COVID-19 who are still in the hospital increased by one person. Total cases were 236.7 per 100,000 in the past week, down from 286.4. Hospitalizations were 10.3 per 100,000 up slightly from 10.1. As of May 31, there have been 670 deaths from COVID-19 in Vermont, with 30 in May, up from both March and April.

Vermont Business Magazine Governor Phil Scott signed a baker's dozen of bills today, passed by the General Assembly. This includes the Universal School Meals Act, S.100. The bill requires all Vermont students to have access to two meals per day during the 2022-23 school year. During the past two years, the federal government paid for meals for all students through pandemic waivers — this program expires in June, and without state action, 40,000 children would have lost access to school meals this fall.

Vermont Department of Health There is a nationwide shortage of infant formula, and Vermont families report having a hard time finding infant formula in stores. This supply chain shortage grew worse after a recall of certain Abbott Nutrition products in February. Abbott recalled seven different infant products after four babies developed bacterial infections from consuming formula that was produced at a manufacturing plant in Michigan.

The Vermont Army National Guard will host a public tour of Camp Ethan Allen Firing Range on June 7. The tour will run from 2 p.m. until approximately 5:15 p.m. next Tuesday afternoon. This particular tour will focus on unit training, with anticipated stops to view 3rd Battalion, 172nd Infantry (Mountain) conduct live-fire exercises during their annual training.
