by Timothy McQuiston, Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Department of Health on Thursday reported 467 cases of COVID-19 (up 63 from yesterday). Hospitalizations fell back to 87 after breaking its one-day record Wednesday with 92 statewide. ICU stays, which also have been elevated, fell by five to 23 statewide. The one-day record there was set on Tuesday (31). The VDH also today reported one additional COVID-related death, which stand at 426 statewide.

​Vermont Business Magazine Today, the Vermont Community Foundation announced $147,229 in grants to reduce stigma associated with poor mental health. These grants are part of the Community Foundation’s broader Mental Health and Suicide Prevention recovery initiative funded through its VT COVID-19 Response Fund, which is focused on increasing Vermonters’ access to mental health and suicide prevention care.

Vermont Business Magazine Vermont gasoline prices fell 2 cents since last week to an average of $3.39 per gallon; they have fallen 3 cents in a month, but are $1.25 higher than a year ago. The lowest prices are in Colchester and Addison ($3.15). The highest prices are in Rutland ($3.59).

Vermont Business Magazine The University of Vermont (UVM) and UVM’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences (CNHS) announce that the Health Sciences bachelor’s degree program is an applicant through the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) to become the first accredited undergraduate public health program in the State of Vermont. The Health Sciences B.S. curriculum provides a population-level perspective on health that includes improving access to health care, preventing and controlling chronic and infectious disease, assessing emerging health threats, communicating during crises, advocating for underserved populations, and confronting social determinants of health.
