Beth Torpey, water quality planner at the Northeastern Vermont Development Association, has been honored by the Seymour Lake Association for her professional guidance and dedication to preserving the lake's native species.
Torpey's work was also recognized by Gov. Scott, who credited her scientific knowledge for helping to keep the glacial lake in the Northeast Kingdom free of aquatic invasives that have plagued other waterbodies.
Torpey has devoted much of her 40-year career as a scientist to protecting and improving water quality of the lakes and rivers in the area. She is a graduate of St. Bonaventure University in western New York and holds a master's degree, summa cum laude, in sustainability studies from Union Institute & University.
