VCGN is pleased to introduce three new directors

The Vermont Community Garden Network welcomes the following new Board of Directors members, who joined the organization’s leadership team on September 12, 2018:

* Jonathan Roddy, Branch Manager at Community Bank NA, South Burlington, Vermont - “I believe everyone has the right, and should have the knowledge, to grow their own food. I believe that children should grow up learning how to nurture plants and when to harvest; children should grow up to be self-sufficient as much as they can without having to rely strictly on what they can buy at the grocery store.”

* Colleen Hobbs, Independent Broker with Symmetry Financial Group, Pittsford, Vermont - “I have development experience in my career history, and I bring a business/entrepreneurial mindset to the table. I also have a personal appreciation for whole foods and share the opinion that community ties are the bedrock of a healthy society.”

* Hannah Harrington, Burlington, Vermont - “I have recently completed my Master’s degree in Community Development and Applied Economics, with a concentration in Foods Systems. I look forward to helping empower the community to take self-care and health into their own hands through innovative, creative, and diverse food related education.”

VCGN’s mission is to support and grow the state’s vibrant network of community and school gardens. We work state-wide to: increase public access to community gardening resources; to develop outreach, education, and programs to cultivate and sustain community-based gardens; to ensure that underserved groups have equal opportunities for community, school, and neighborhood food production; and to cultivate political support for community-based gardening through networking, advocacy, and activism.

We envision a vibrant local food system where Vermonters of all ages experience the benefits of school, workplace, healthcare, affordable housing and neighborhood gardening and become healthier through improved diets, exercise, and positive social interactions.
