Reps Sarah Buxton and Jill Krowinski selected to receive Pacesetter Award at an upcoming National Women’s Leadership Conference

State Representatives Sarah Buxton and Jill Krowinski have both been selected as a 2013 WiLL Pacesetter and will be honored at the upcoming national conference, “Women at the Tables of Power,” sponsored by the Women Legislators’ Lobby (WiLL) of Women’s Action for New Directions (WAND), in Washington, DC, on September 30. WiLL Pacesetters are recognized for their noteworthy legislative service, their contributions to sound, progressive policy, and their groundbreaking leadership in their respective states. Rep. Buxton and Rep. Krowinski were chosen for their commitment to excellence and a resolve that the voices of women of all races and stations in life are fully and fairly represented in shaping public policy.

Rep. Buxton says, “I am proud of the work Rep. Krowinski and I have done, working with state and federal leaders, to explore new ways of investing in our economy and creating good jobs. It's no surprise that policies supporting women and families are key to our collective success.”

Rep. Krowinski adds, “As we focus on the budget and the economy, a robust state-federal partnership is critical to ensuring that the necessary resources and services are in place for our citizens. We must protect vital programs and insist that Pentagon spending be scrutinized for savings as well.”

Women Legislators’ Lobby and Women’s Action for New Directions encourage women to seek office, and provide them with vital tools and information to be successful. This year the biennial WiLL/WAND National Women’s Leadership conference will bring women state legislators and community leaders to convene with women Parliamentarians from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya, and Morocco, and women Members of Congress, for policy briefings, networking, and strategizing for national budget priorities that revitalize the U.S. economy as well as international policies that protect women and girls worldwide.

The Pacesetter Award will be presented to Rep. Buxton and Rep. Krowinski on September 30, 2013 at a Capitol Hill reception. Congresswoman Donna Edwards (MD-4), the first African-American woman elected to Congress from Maryland, will give the keynote address at the reception and also be honored with the 2013 Torchbearer Award for her stellar public service and her demonstrated commitment to building a more secure world.
