Marlboro College Graduate School introduced Kate Jellema as the new director of Program in Nonprofit Management, and announced that the Fall 2010 version of the program will be offered in both Burlington and Norwich, Vermont, starting on October 8. Jellema takes the mantle of program director just as Marlboro College assumes sole responsibility for the Program in Nonprofit Management Certification. For the previous two years, the program was offered in conjunction with first Woodbury and then Champlain College.
The program combines the best of face-to-face learning with an online learning portal, offering nonprofit leaders and staff an intensive four-month series that help them gain and refine the essential skills needed to strengthen their organizations and achieve their missions.
"With our state's nonprofits frequently understaffed and short of resources, there is tremendous potential for the Program in Nonprofit Management to play a role," says Jellema, herself a graduate of the program. "The faculty is excellent and the professional networking opportunities are unparalleled." Currently, Jellema serves as Vice President of the Board for Hilltop Montessori School in Brattleboro and volunteers in various capacities for United Way of Windham County, among other volunteer service. She is also part of the "Community Impact 2020" task force charged with strategic reinvention of United Way in Windham County." She holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology and History from University of Michigan, where her research focused on the history and culture of Vietnam.
