Tim Rieser, senior foreign policy adviser to former U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy, will be honored in October as the Vermont Council on World Affairs' 2023 Person of the Year. The award is given annually to an individual who embodies the qualities inherent in promoting international understanding and building ties between the U.S. and the world.
In his 37 years working for Leahy, Rieser helped create a more peaceful world for future generations. His instrumental contributions to shaping U.S. foreign policy encompass critical issues ranging from human rights to global health, international environmental conservation, and a wide range of other foreign assistance programs.
Throughout his career, Rieser has left an indelible mark on the international stage and has shown a longstanding commitment to diplomacy, peace and global security. His work has spanned the globe, from the Balkans to the Middle East to Africa. He has played a key role in negotiating peace agreements, resolving conflicts and promoting human rights.
Rieser will be feted Oct. 12 at VCWA's annual Peace Celebration at Saint Michael's College in Colchester.
