BS&L president named Vermont's outstanding community banker for 2022

Surrounded by colleagues from around the state as well as community leaders, friends and family, Dan Yates, president of Brattleboro Savings & Loan, accepted the Vermont Bankers Association's 2022 Vermont Outstanding Community Banker of the Year Award Sept 8. The award was created to recognize leaders who exemplify the best of community banking and an exceptional commitment to the communities that their bank serves.

Yates has worked at nearly every level of banking, beginning as a teller, during his nearly 40-year career. Since becoming president of BS&L in 2007, the bank’s financial health has never been better and, this past March, was accepted as a state member bank of the Federal Reserve.

“It’s been such a privilege to work with Dan as he’s grown the positive impact of BS&L. Everything he does is an indication of his commitment to the community and the bank itself,” said Carmen Derby, BS&L board chair and benefit director.

Yates is a board member of the American Bankers Association, a past president of the Vermont Bankers Association and a past board member of the Massachusetts Bankers Association. He has also served on the boards of many local nonprofit organizations, including the Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation, Windham & Windsor Housing Trust, The Latchis Corporation, and the Brattleboro Museum and Arts Center.

“Dan has had a profound impact on the BMAC and the lives of southeastern Vermonters in general,” said Danny Lichtenfeld, director of the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center. “His equanimity, integrity and professionalism are second to none.”
