Woden Teachout elected to board of trustees for the Vermont Historical Society

Woden Teachout of Middlesex was recently elected to the board of trustees for the Vermont Historical Society. As a professor at Union Institute & University, her research and writings explore the intersection of history, politics and patriotism. She has also authored Capture the Flag: A Political History of American Patriotism (2009). Ms. Teachout has given talks for the Vermont Humanities Council academic speaker series, including most recently “What We Learn When We Learn History.” Her experiences teaching nontraditional students in an online, progressive education setting have piqued her interest in the method and practice of teaching history. She is a member of the New England Historical Association where she has presented a number of papers and chaired panels on teaching history. Her most recent book is Slow Democracy with Susan Clark (2012).
