Watershed Consulting Associates (watershedca.com) welcomes Becky Tharp to their technical stormwater team. Becky will work to further develop the firm’s strength in watershed‐focused stormwater management and design with an emphasis on project development and research‐driven water quality outcomes.

Since 2015, Becky has served as the manager of the Green Infrastructure Collaborative – a partnership between the Lake Champlain Sea Grant Program at the University of Vermont and the Department of Environmental Conservation in the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources. In this role, she has worked to coordinate with stormwater professionals representing multiple sectors across the state to develop and implement a strategic direction for green stormwater infrastructure research, design, training, and outreach that reflects the best available information.

“I have worked with Andres and the Watershed Consulting team for several years as a partner on a number of projects and initiatives related to stormwater management. They have provided consistent and high quality technical contributions to regional and national stormwater management efforts. Joining WCA is an opportunity for me to learn from a successful team while exploring new ideas to optimize water quality outcomes,” says Tharp.

In addition to her work at the Green Infrastructure Collaborative, Becky is a PhD candidate in the Plant and Soil Science Department at the University of Vermont where she has engaged in academic research on the drivers of stormwater pond performance and pond retrofit designs to improve nutrient holding capacity. Becky expects to complete her degree requirements in the spring of 2018.

Andres Torizzo, WCA’s Principal, says, “I am excited to welcome Becky to our team. Her experience working within the University and state government settings to evaluate, research, and strategize green infrastructure policy and projects will bring valued perspective to our work. Becky’s active research on innovative tools to improve existing stormwater practices is unique in our region and will directly influence and improve our firm’s project portfolio for a diverse set of clients. Adding Becky to the WCA team is a sign of our commitment to high quality project outcomes embedded in relevant data.”
