Mia Montoya Hammersley, former of counsel attorney at a law firm in Las Cruces, New Mexico, has been named director of the Environmental Justice Clinic at Vermont Law and Graduate School. In this role, she will oversee one of the few law school clinics in the United States specifically devoted to environmental justice.
Montoya Hammersley brings extensive fieldwork experience to her new position. She will support students as they work in partnership with community organizations, tribal nations, coalitions and other stakeholders to combat environmental racism and advance community health and human rights.
Montoya Hammersley is a graduate of Franklin University Switzerland and holds a master's degree in water, policy and society from the University of Arizona and a law degree from the James E. Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona.
