Nancy Cain of Against The Grain Gourmet wins Idea Prize in national competition

Nancy Cain, of Against The Grain Gourmet in Brattleboro, won the Idea Prize in the Breakfast Category at the 6th Annual America’s Best Raisin Bread Competition. One of only two gluten free entries out of 36 finalists, her creation was a chocolate-covered breakfast bar sweetened by only fruit and honey.

The competition, which was sponsored by the California Raisin Marketing Board (CRMB,) was held at the International Baking Industry Exposition in early October at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Contestants were scored on a number of factors, including the look and taste of their finished products, the story behind the naming of the product, the plans to launch or the story behind current sales, and the cost of ingredients compared to suggested retail price.

Nancy is co-owner of Against The Grain, which is a leading manufacturer of frozen gluten free bread and pizza products. Their products are found in thousands of supermarkets, specialty and natural food stores, and food coops across the country.
