Volunteers in Medicine welcomes new Executive Director

The national Volunteers in Medicine office is pleased to announce that Sasha K Bianchi has joined the organization as its new Executive Director. Sasha has dedicated her career to advocating for underserved populations. After graduating with high honors from Yale University, she began her professional life as a Teach for America special educator in Greater New Orleans. Her fifth graders faced significant barriers to success, including generational poverty, institutional racism and disability discrimination. This experience fueled a commitment to social justice that continues to drive her today.

Sasha has served diverse populations, including people living with HIV/AIDS, individuals experiencing homelessness and at-risk women in both the United States and Chile. She has worked in diverse settings as well, including non-profit, academic and government sectors. In her most recent role as District Director for the Vermont Department of Health, she was actively involved in the integration of public health and healthcare. Among her achievements was the development of multidisciplinary partnerships to address childhood trauma as a determinant of health.

Sasha holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Sasha’s rich public health experience, coupled with her passion for health equity, make her an excellent fit for Volunteers in Medicine.
