The Rutland Region Chamber of Commerce announced on October 29, 2013 at their annual meeting that Steve Costello (Vice President of Generation and Energy Innovation) at Green Mountain Power is the Chamber's 2013 Business Person of the Year.
Costello was presented the award by Vermont Lt. Governor Phil Scott, Rutland City Mayor Chris Louras, and Chamber officials.
The award presentation cited Costello's extensive involvement in the community and the successful business development he has already sheparded for the Rutland Region on behalf of Green Mountain Power.
In addition the company has already achieved set goals to make Rutland the "Solar Capital" and subsequently increased their commitment to provide 10 megawatts of solar production there by the end of 2015.
In the presentation Tom Donahue, CEO of the Rutland Region Chamber of Commerce cited a quote from Costello's friend and colleague Nanci Gordon. Gordon said "Steve has vision and energy". “He thinks big and then attends to all the details that go into making those big things happen. Meanwhile, he maintains a low-key demeanor. He is an exceptional individual"
Donahue went on to say "he seems to take it all in stride and just gets it done".
The Keynote Speaker for the meeting (attended by over 200 people) was Vermont Lt. Gov. Phil Scott; introduced by friend and colleague Ken Squier.
