The Valley Business Journal concluded its annual “Best of the Best” Reader’s Choice Awards, with Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center’s (MAHHC) Maggie Moore, winning the most votes in the category of “Best Nurse” in the Upper Valley region of Vermont/New Hampshire.
A veteran in the field of nursing, Moore has been a clinical practitioner since 1981, primarily in the areas of oncology and women’s health. She received her Nurse Practitioner degree from Boston College in 1991 and first came to MAHHC in 1995 as the Coordinator of the Women’s Wellness Program. She has held her current position in the Hospital’s Oncology Department since 2009.
During her tenure at Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center, Moore has been instrumental in helping the Oncology Department to implement several initiatives aimed at tailoring cancer treatment to individual patients’ needs and preferences, such as expanding options for alternative types of treatment and therapy. Recent MAHHC cancer patient Joan Ecker of Quechee, Vermont, described her experiences with Moore in a recent MAHHC newsletter, “The nursing staff knew my anxious voice on the phone and were immediately responsive in answering my many questions. Maggie Moore took my many requests for clarification of treatment studies and alternative therapies around my type of cancer and investigated each one in an effort to improve my outcome.”
Moore said she was extremely honored by receiving the recognition from the community via the Valley Business Journal’s “Best of the Best” awards. “As an oncology nurse, I think I’m lucky to have a career that is so focused on positivity and hope. It’s a pleasure to be able to provide personalized, excellent care to all of our patients.”
“This recognition is so well-deserved,” said Kevin W. Donovan, CEO at MAHHC, “We consistently hear wonderful things about Maggie from our oncology patients— in particular, about her sensitivity, her ability to really listen, understand, and keep them hopeful and positive during a difficult time. Her colleagues on the nursing staff as well as the physicians here view her as an invaluable resource.”
