Lewis joins Vermont Blue Advantage

Richard Lewis of Essex, a lifelong Vermonter and longtime communications and public relations professional, assumes the role of Community Outreach Manager for Vermont Blue Advantage (HMO and PPO), the Medicare Advantage Plan created and supported by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont (Blue Cross).

Lewis, a graduate of the University of Vermont, has held communications and public relations positions with several Vermont organizations, including the Champlain Valley Exposition, the University of Vermont, KeyBank’s Vermont district and the American Cancer Society.

Most recently he served as Communications and Event Strategist for Blue Cross, helping members make the most of their benefits and creating opportunities to improve their health through a wide range of activities.

Pam Getsie, Plan President of Vermont Blue Advantage, stressed Lewis’s connection to local communities in announcing his new role. “Rich has been at the forefront of improving the health and wellbeing of his fellow Vermonters for many years,” she said. “In his new position, Rich will be able to help Medicare-eligible enrollees understand and make the most of Vermont Blue Advantage’s outstanding health care benefits and help them age in wellness.”

Lewis welcomes the opportunity to focus on helping Medicare-eligible people learn more. “As I’ve gotten out and started to talk with a wide range of Vermonters, many of them note their positive experiences with Blue Cross in the past,” he said, “and with Vermont Blue Advantage, we have the right plans to continue that success for individuals and groups.” Lewis noted that in its first year Vermont Blue Advantage has grown quickly and is already delivering savings for groups that provide Medicare coverage to employees and retirees.

Vermont Blue Advantage was formed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont to offer all older Vermonters enrolled in Medicare, regardless of their health status or pre-existing conditions, excellent Vermont-grown Medicare Advantage plans. Offered by private insurers, Medicare Advantage plans bundle the components of traditional Medicare into one seamless health insurance plan. Medicare Advantage (Part C) is unique because it combines the coverage of all the other parts of Medicare – Part A (hospital services); Part B (medical services); and often Part D (prescription drug coverage). Dental, vision, and hearing benefits are also common benefits that Medicare Advantage plans include.
