HomeShare Vermont elected Kelly Deforge to head the non-profit’s fifteen member board of directors at their recent annual meeting.
Kelly has been on the board since 2007 and served as Vice President for the past two years. Kelly is a Senior Mortgage Loan Originator with Union Bank and has been in the mortgage industry for over twenty years. She also volunteers with the Howard Center as the Co-Chair of the CYFS Advisory Committee and she sits on the loan committee at Champlain Housing Trust.
“At a time when many homesharing programs around the country are struggling, we have developed a program that has excelled. We have done this thanks to a strong volunteer base, a generous community and an excellent board and staff. Our programs align with the culture of Vermont: neighbors helping each other, self-sufficiency and self- reliance,” said Kelly.
For over 30 years HomeShare Vermont has helped people looking for an affordable place to live by matching them with elders, persons with disabilities and others who want to stay in their homes. Homesharing is a bartering arrangement in which one person offers a room in their home in exchange for up to 12 hours a week of service and/or some rental income. Each homesharing “match” is unique and depends on the needs and offerings of the participants. HomeShare Vermont is a member agency of the United Way of Chittenden County serving Addison, Chittenden, Franklin and Grand Isle counties.
