Broadcasters to honor longtime National Guard spokesman

The Vermont Association of Broadcasters will present a special award to recently-retired Vermont National Guard spokesman Lt. Col. Lloyd Goodrow at their annual awards banquet December 1 in Burlington.

Goodrow, who retired from the Guard earlier this month, will receive a special “Friend of Broadcasters” award for his many years of service to the broadcasting community in Vermont. The Essex Junction native served his state and country for 33 years, including the last 25 years as spokesman for the Vermont Guard

“When it comes to relations between government and the media, Lloyd set a new standard for responsiveness and reliability,” said VAB Executive Director Jim Condon. “Whether seeking information about a troop deployment, a homecoming or information on how to help our Guard families, Lloyd always came through. We are delighted to present him with a special “Friend of Broadcasters Award,” Condon said.

At the December 1 event at the Hilton Burlington, the VAB will induct WPTZ-TV General Manager Paul Sands, Northeast Kingdom radio executive Bruce James and the late sportscaster Tom Cheek into the VAB Hall of Fame. Distinguished Service Awards will be presented to WCAX-TV weather forecaster Sharon Meyer and WDEV talk show host Mark Johnson.

Community Service Awards will be presented to WNCS-FM, TJ Michaels of WWFY-FM, WORK-FM and WSNO-AM, and to WVTK-FM General Manager Bruce Zeman and his canine morning show co-host, Hobbes.
