The Barre Lodge of Elks #1535 recognized Lydia Brown of Barre, Vermont as their First Jr ROTC Student of the Month. The Grand Lodge Activities Committee introduced this program in 2018 to recognize outstanding high school students enrolled in the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. Selection criteria for the award includes leadership attributes, academic achievement community service and maintaining the highest standards of performance in all JROTC fields. Lydia was presented a medallion, certificate and American Flag.
Lydia attends Spaulding High School as a member of the Class of 2019 and plans to continue her studies at Norwich University in the fall of 2019. She is currently the Commander of the SHS JROTC Granite Battalion.
In her nomination, her instructors stated Lydia has exemplified the JROTC Cadet Creed by conducting herself to bring credit to her family, country, school and the corps of cadets. She is loyal and patriotic and is the future of the USA. She doesn't' lie, cheat or steal and is always accountable for her actions and deeds. She is a good citizen and patriot and will always be prepared to uphold the Constitution of the American way of life.
Lydia was the guest of Barre Lodge and was joined accompanied by her Army Instructor, Sargent Boone.
