AARP Foundation honors Tax-Aide volunteer Phil Soltau

Phil Soltau

Philip Soltau, a volunteer with the AARP Foundation's free tax-assistance program for low- and moderate-income families, has been honored with the 2025 AARP Andrus Award for Community Service in Vermont. This award, AARP’s highest honor, is presented annually to a volunteer who has significantly impacted their community.

As district coordinator for Chittenden County and assistant state coordinator for the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program in Vermont, Soltau has been instrumental in promoting the program and ensuring his team is well-prepared to offer free tax-filing assistance to those most in need. Under Soltau's guidance, the Chittenden County team of 57 volunteers prepared 1,859 tax returns this year, generating $1.3 million in federal and state refunds.

Soltau is a retired insurance trainer and field-training specialist from the financial services company Horace Mann. He holds a master's degree in education from Seton Hall University.
