VTDigger has hired three new staffers

VTDigger has announced that Rick Woods will join the VTDigger team as co-publisher and will organize events and marketing, and support our business sponsorship program. Woods formerly served as a member of the Vermont Journalism Trust board of directors and for many years he was the general manager for Seven Days newspaper in Burlington.

Anne Galloway, founder of VTDigger, will continue to serve as editor and will take on a new role as co-publisher for the organization. She will lead the nonprofit’s contributing subscriber, sustaining subscriber and grant-writing programs.

Tom Brown is VTDigger’s new assignment editor, copy editor and social media maven. Brown was a longtime member of the editorial staff at the Burlington Free Press.

Nat Rudarakanchana, who covered politics and business for VTDigger, is moving to New York City to take a position with International Business Times. We wish him the best of luck.

Hilary Niles comes to us from the University of Missouri, where she just completed a graduate degree in investigative reporting. She is a database expert and recently worked for Investigative Reporters and Editors Inc. Niles will divide her time between business reporting and VTDigger’s campaign finance database project.

Alicia Freese, our education and human services reporter, will pick up the politics beat.

The data reporting and co-publisher positions are made possible through a grant from the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation.

The Vermont Journalism Trust, the 501(c)3 organization that oversees VTDigger, welcomes four recent additions to the board of directors: Maxwell King, former editor of The Philadelphia Inquirer, former president of The Heinz Endowments and a past chair of The Council on Foundations; Carin Pratt, retired executive producer of Face the Nation;Pat Sears, director of marketing for Vermont Energy Investment Corp., and the former CEO of SPIKE Advertising; and Ina Smith, retired film and video editor for NBC Network News, NOVA and Frontline.

Many thanks to Don Kreis and Doug Clifton who were instrumental in the founding of the Vermont Journalism Trust and VTDigger. They both recently retired from the board of directors.
