Stern Center hires communications specialist & supports play-based social learning with new book

The Stern Center for Language and Learning welcomed Julia Caminiti to its staff as Communications Specialist. Julia brings a wealth of expertise in setting strategic marketing direction and implementing successful campaigns for institutions of higher education, businesses, and design firms. Prior to joining the Stern Center, Julia worked for nearly twenty years at Champlain College in a variety of key roles. As Communications Specialist, Julia will coordinate marketing, messaging, and brand awareness for the Stern Center.

The Stern Center’s Julie Erdelyi wrote the organization’s most recent publication—Activities, Games, and Lessons for Social Learning: A Practical Guide. The book is perfectly timed to help educators and parents teaching children at home during COVID-19. Erdelyi is an autism specialist and the Director of the Stern Center’s Social Learning and Communication team. The book shares fun ways to help children make strong, meaningful connections with others.

According to Erdelyi, “Having good social skills doesn’t just affect classroom behavior—it’s the key to making learning stick. When students improve their self-regulation, social communication, and perspective-taking competencies, they are better prepared to challenge themselves academically, take on tough tasks, and collaborate with teachers and classmates to achieve real, lasting school success. And since these skills also improve life outside school, the benefits come full circle.”

Published by Corwin Press, Activities, Games, and Lessons for Social Learning: A Practical Guide, is available online (https://us.corwin.com/en-us/nam/activities-games-and-lessons-for-social-learning/book266418) and through most major booksellers.
