Smith, Ferenc appointed deputy commissioners at Vermont DFR

Gov. Phil Scott has named Amanda Smith and Aaron Ferenc as deputy commissioners of the securities and banking divisions, respectively, within the Department of Financial Regulation. Both had been serving as interim deputies prior to their appointments.

Smith, who joined DFR in 2010, holds a master's degree in public administration. Ferenc has worked at the department for 20 years.

"Aaron is an experienced DFR leader who not only met the challenge of the new role but has been extremely helpful in providing support and advice as the banking sector navigates a variety of challenges," said DFR Commissioner Kevin Gaffney. "Amanda has done a great job of not only leading the division but supporting me in a number of ways this past year."

The securities division is responsible for protecting Vermont investors from fraud and promoting the development of Vermont’s capital markets. The banking division regulates state-chartered banks, credit unions, trust companies and other nonbank financial services providers such as mortgage lenders, sales finance companies and money transmitters.
