Norwich University officials announced Lt. Gen. Mark Bowman, Director of Command, Control, Communications and Computers/Cyber (C4) for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will be the honored speaker for the university’s 2013 Joint Commissioning Ceremony on Sunday, May 12, at 1 p.m. in Shapiro Field House.
Bowman, a 1978 graduate of Norwich, develops C4 capabilities, conducts analysis and assessments, provides Joint and Combined Force C4 guidance, and evaluates C4 strategies for the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He has served in several Joint and operational assignments in the U.S. Army and has commanded at every level from company to Signal Brigade.
Bowman received a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Norwich University, where he was commissioned as second lieutenant on May 28, 1978. He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Shippensburg University, Pa.
At the May 12 ceremony, Bowman will address approximately 130 students commissioning in four branches of the military in a joint services ceremony in which new officers receive their second lieutenant or ensign bars and first salutes. The ceremony is open to the public.
