Kelli Shonter, former director of philanthropy at King Street Center in Burlington, has been appointed executive director at Sail Beyond Cancer Vermont, effective May 19. The organization creates lasting memories for individuals with cancer, and their loved ones, through the therapeutic experience of sailing.
Prior to her tenure at King Street Center, where she led fundraising, public relations and development activities, Shonter was director of medical alumni relations at the Robert Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont. She is a graduate of UVM and holds a master's degree in child life and family support services from Wheelock College of Education and Development at Boston University.
"The SBC VT board is confident that, in meeting Kelli, you will immediately understand our enthusiasm (for hiring her)," board chair Whit Wales wrote in a letter to members. "At the outset, you will see a genuine down-to-earth extraordinarily intelligent and caring nonprofit leader who is attuned to the purpose of the SBC VT mission."
