Green Mountain Council elects new officers; recognizes new troops for girls

The Green Mountain Council of the Boy Scouts of America recently elected Dave McAllister and eleven other community leaders to serve as officers for the 2019-20 council year. The elections were held at the Barre Elks Club, where the Council membership celebrated its history and its future as an organization for all youth, regardless of gender, for success as adults.

“While we are undoubtedly proud of our heritage, we are extremely excited to announce that our Scouting programs are now open to young men and women. By welcoming everyone into the program, even more youth will have access to the character development and values-based leadership that Scouting promises.” Said McAllister, a longtime proponent of scouting values for all.

“I am proud to announce that the Green Mountain Council has granted charters for three female troops. Given the response we have received, I expect that number to double in the coming year,” said McAllister. “I look forward to the upcoming day when we welcome and celebrate the achievement of young women and men who have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.”

The Green Mountain Council’s mission is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. For over 100 years, Scouting BSA has been the premiere youth leadership program in the United States. Former Scouts include Harrison Ford, Zach Galifianakis, Steven Spielberg, Presidents John F. Kennedy and Gerald Ford, Michael Bloomberg, Bill Gates, Martin Luther King, Jr., Hank Aaron, Walter Cronkite, and Michael Jordan.
