Attorney Robert B. Luce of the northern New England law firm Downs Rachlin Martin PLLC chose a live seminar on personal injury law on Thursday to announce the launching of a new blog relating to traumatic brain injury or TBI. The blog aims to improve the general understanding of the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of serious brain injuries.
“The goal of this blog is to contribute to a better understanding of the impact of brain injury and the remarkable work being done in this field by providing links to reliable information, by monitoring peer-reviewed medical literature, and by highlighting important public policy developments,” Luce said, “ We will pull this information together and translate it into understandable summaries.”
Luce says that brain injury has impacted him both professionally and personally. “I have seen the impact of brain injury in my own family and have had a chance to work with countless other families impacted by brain injury, both as a trial lawyer and as a founding member of the board of the Brain Injury Association of Vermont he said. “Marie Whitbeck, my nurse colleague of more than 20 years, and I have experienced the greatest fulfillment by being able to assist families putting their lives back together following brain injury.”
At its launching, the blog contains articles written by Luce on such topics as how to prove that a traumatic brain injury has occurred, where to look for compensation, where to find resources to plan effective rehabilitation techniques, the prevalence of TBI in sports and other topics. Luce made the announcement as he and several other local attorneys presented a seminar on recent developments in personal injury law in a program sponsored by the National Business Institute entitled “Personal Injury 101.” Luce provided an update on legislative, case law and regulatory developments in a program for legal professionals seeking continuing legal education credits.
Luce chairs the Litigation Practice Group at DRM. In addition to his work on behalf of brain and spinal cord injury victims, he also litigates other serious personal injury cases as well as commercial disputes. He is often called a “neurolawyer” because his practice requires that he be knowledgeable about the biomechanics of neurotrauma, neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, neurochemistry, neuropsychology, neurorehabilitation, and the special needs that accompany brain injury and spinal cord injury.
